Event History
Run the Tan was founded in 2019 to establish an official database of recorded run times around Melbourne’s iconic Tan Track, along with a set of rules and regulations for official timing. It has since played a key role in recognising and verifying top performances, contributing to the credibility of the fastest times displayed on The Tan Clocks.
In April 2021, Run the Tan launched its inaugural annual Run the Tan Showcase charity event, attracting elite Australian middle-distance athletes competing for prize money and official records, while also providing a platform for community participation. Additionally, Run the Tan hosts a weekly community Run Club every Saturday at 8 am.
Originally a grassroots initiative, Run the Tan is now managed by Run for Mental Health Ltd, an Australian charity dedicated to the prevention and control of mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. Through its efforts, Run the Tan has elevated the profile of The Tan Track and inspired runners of all levels.
