Nestled in the heart of Sydney’s Inner West, The Bay Run is a 7-kilometre pedestrian and cycling paradise that hugs the picturesque Iron Cove. The Bay Run promises stunning scenery, a vibrant atmosphere.
Lace up your shoes and prepare to be captivated by the ever-changing tapestry of the cityscape. Lush mangroves and pockets of native bushland give way to charming harborfront suburbs, each boasting its own unique character. Spot heritage mansions in Drummoyne, trendy cafes in Rozelle, and the iconic Iron Cove Bridge, a sentinel marking your progress.
Originally a gravel track, the loop is now predominantly paved and traverses a number of grassy parks, with kilometre markers along the way. Being a loop, you can start anywhere, but the grass athletics track at King George’s Park or the Lilyfield Road Footbridge are a popular locations. Near the Lilyfield Road Footbridge an additional 1.8km can be added to your run by running south along the canal that runs through Richard Murden Reserve, crossing at a pedestrian footbridge and returning on the other side of the canal.
The beauty of The Bay Run lies in its versatility. The mostly flat, well-maintained path caters to runners of all levels, while dedicated cycling lanes ensure everyone can navigate the route safely and comfortably. Kilometre markers keep you on track, and ample parks provide welcome pit stops for hydration and reflection.
The Bay Run is more than just a running route; it’s a community hub. Particularly on weekends, the path comes alive with a kaleidoscope of activity. Dog walkers, cyclists, rollerbladers, and families with prams all contribute to the vibrant buzz. It is also popular after hours, with well lit sections along many of the sections of the loop.
For those that like test themselves in race conditions, The Bay Run fun run is conducted annually in August.
